Set Intentions, NOT Resolutions

At the end of 2018, having gone through some crazy challenges, I sat down and asked myself “What next?” Am I going to keep sending out my CV and attend interviews with nothing concrete? I had many reflective moments, and one day I put my thoughts to paper; describing what I wanted out of “the next”. I think it was more me trying to make sense of my seemingly disposable life at that time. I started making lists of what I still wanted to achieve in my life. I got carried away and ended up making a vision board using pictures of what I listed that day. At the time it was purely motivational; something to look at every day, and remind myself that I am alive with possibilities, and have so much I wanted to achieve, and dreams that I longed to become a reality. I realized in that moment that I wasn’t only making a list of “wants”, but I was setting definite intentions; not a new years’ pinky promise. This was my moment! The moment I realized that I didn’t need to be afraid to start over. That I had within my grasp a brand new opportunity to rebuild.
I want to share with you just three of the intentions that I listed that day.
1. Abundance (we all crave it) – travel, money, prosperity, recognition, health, harvest, family, creating a home, giving, generosity, gratefulness
2. Passion (it’s intrinsic) – self-discovery, romance, relationships, art, creation, setting sights on dreams, risk, love, self-appreciation, allowing space for uncertainty (doubting the doubt)
3. Growth (it’s expected) – learn a new skill, saying yes to self, accepting truths, choosing a new path, letting go, starting over, allowing true joy, moving on.
The idea is to find an intention that matches the word that you have chosen for yourself. To take the word and taste it on your tongue and say it out loud and often. Open yourself up and allow the intention to come alive inside of you; before your eyes. When you feel lost at moments in every day life, you can always go to your intention.
For me, the word abundance swells at my fingertips. I stand before infinite possibilities. I accept that I have space within me to search and allow for new challenges and opportunities. The word passion has left me breathless. I will allow this year, 2019, to drive me wonderfully mad. It speaks to the artist in me. The creative. You are a mom; creative is what you do, whether it’s baking, pitching to a client, or doing homework with the kids. Passion is the reason you started our own path and discovery of doing what you love. To be willing to take the risk and start out on your own. You shouldn’t hold back and shy away from the unknown and unfamiliar. Trust yourself enough to know that you are capable of amazing things. The word growth gives you permission to say YES! Be in charge of your thoughts, your day, and your future. You have unlimited room for growth.
When you feel all three of these intentions, you will see the opportunity for growth in every challenge. Be confident in your ability to see yourself as a leader, an over-comer, a creative being of the things you love. Do more of what you love to do. Set purpose in your goals. Start every day visualizing your change, your future and your successes. Be consistent in staying loyal to your vision. Every day is grace given to you to put purpose in your dreams.
